Positivity - by JIBILKA

//A youth’s response to HIV / AIDS in Zimbabwe, bringing together some of Zimbabwe's finest and unsung voices together on a song of positivity//

Wassup wassup fam. I hope y'all have been good, and compliments of the new season. 2018 was quite hectic, but any way, we're in 2019 now..... finally!!! Before the year ended, Jibilika dropped a song which we've decided to share with you.

"A collection of twelve, young and diversely talented artists released a song and a video on Friday 16th of November 2018 in Harare titled Positivity. The event was graced by Health Minister Honorable Obadiah Moyo, US Ambassador Brian Nichols, Harare Mayor Hebert Gomba. The idea, a conception of the youth culture organisation JIBILIKA was prompted by the increasing risks young people continue to face in contracting sexually transmitted diseases especially HIV and the appreciation of the power of music to speak to the youth. The song touches on drug abuse, education, deviant sexual behaviour amongst the youth, gender based violence and the need to have a positive mind and attitude towards life."

This is JIBILIKA‘s second musical offering after its debut CD project in 2014 that featured 15 Zimbancehall artists and one video. I really like the fact that it's sung in three languages, Shona, Isindebele and English (With hopes of reaching more young people in the country and beyond). The song also has great and catchy hook that's easy to sing along to, so don't be surprised if it sticks in your mind for a while.

I really like the fact that the song came with a great video (above) - and the video compliments the song perfectly. The song is part of Jibilika’s youth HIV campaign project Step Up 2 HIV which has been running for six years in several schools and communities around the country. It mobilizes and engages young people through popular youth music and dance in HIV prevention, Sexual Reproductive Health, Gender, Drug abuse and advocacy campaigns in schools and communities. Music is one of the key tools Jibilika uses to engage with young people. These guys have been around for a while, and have making great strides in local communities year in and year out. In 2013 the initiative won the Best Social Impact Award at the Zim Hip Hop Awards.

The launch of the song was held together with PEPFAR’s 15th Anniversary. Through support from the The U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), the Step Up 2 HIV program empowers young people with the knowledge, tools and opportunity to use their own art, media and ideas as a way to amplify their voices for an AIDS free generation. Artists featured on the song are, Masa, Nutty O, Vera , Probeatz, Tamy, Mwenje Mathole, D-Blok, Biscky Likho, Maestro Iv, Nargee, Ding’o, Alchemy. It was produced by former Military Touch Movement producer Chiweddar and the video shot by Andy Cutta.

After the launch of Positivity, Jibilika embarked on a 15 day outreach program, and I've decided to share some of the pictures from the activities that took place as they were spreading the HIV Free message in celebration of #PEPFAR15 15 Years work in fighting HIV/AIDS in Zimbabwe.[Photo cred of all pictures: Jibilika]

We've come to end of this article, and I would like to encourage you to check out Jibilka's Facebook page so that you keep up to date with all the amazing initiatives and festivals they run throughout the year. Don't forget to share the video and this article with friends and fam, and let's continue spreading the word on Positivity throughout the year. "Never feel negative about being positive". Do the right thing!

Feel free to leave a comment, and if you haven't subscribed to the blog, please do so. You can also send me a tweet @2tukani about what you think of the song. Peace.
